What do you think?

A good friend of my working for a big American company received a few days ago a few rules to be followed by the book from their COO.
Talking about cost control, this is what he said: “…I am proud of this organization that we are focused on maintaining our profitability in the face of difficult market conditions. I know that expense and headcount reductions are very painful things, however in tough times only 3 things matter: Having the right strategy, executing it well and surviving. If we don’t do the third, the other two don’t matter. …”
What else can be said? What do you think?
Cheers.

Windows Home Server

A few weeks ago, I built my own Windows Home Server running an OEM license bought in US. This is a big tower (from an old computer of my), a very cheap motherboard (able to run AM2+ cpus), an AMD XP processor (cheap as well), 4Gig of Ram, a USD20 pci-e video board … and 4TB of disks.
If you do not know what I am talking about, have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/default.mspx. The server is taking care of 2.5TB of data, most of it on duplicated shares, backing up 5 PC/Laptops at home, and running a few very useful add-ins (http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php?autocom=downloads).
I strongly suggest you give it a try.
Drop me a note if you have questions/comments.
